Repair work performed directly by Sensei Joseph S. Gracia, Ph.D., author of The Residential Garage Door Repair Bible. I specialize exclusively in snapped torsion springs, slipped cables, and doors knocked off their tracks.
When you hire Sensei Joe, you are not getting an uncertified handyman guessing at spring turns with a pair of pliers. You are getting the author who codified the trade's definitive counterbalance engineering safety manual.
A residential overhead door is the single largest, heaviest moving mechanical assembly in your home—suspended overhead under 30 to 45 foot-pounds of pure stored rotational torque.
I do not do general handyman work, panel painting, or electric motor rebuilds. I specialize strictly in high-tension counterbalance mechanics and emergency track restorations.
When a high-torque spring snaps with a loud gunshot crack, your door sits dead on the concrete slab.
If an aircraft cable slips off the aluminum drum grooves, the door loses counterbalance on one side, violently cocking sideways and threatening to crash down.
If a roller popped out of the guide rail or the door was hit by a bumper and wedged cocked in the corridor, the assembly is an unstable, suspended danger.
Precision garage door repair is my part-time afternoon hobby and craft. Because I do not run a rushed corporate volume company, I typically take only ONE select job per day, Monday through Friday.
No cutting corners to sprint to the next dispatch call. Your door is serviced with complete, methodical care.
You work directly with me. No commissioned salesmen, no subcontractors, and no inexperienced apprentices.
I do not leave until your heavy steel door can be lifted effortlessly off the floor with just two fingers.
To maintain my 1-job-per-day schedule and ensure I carry the exact right springs and hardware on my truck, I require a picture before arriving.
Take 1 or 2 clear photos showing the broken spring, slipped cable, or off-track roller.
Text your photo and city (Edinburg, Elsa, PJA, or McAllen) directly to my phone.
I will personally review your photo, calculate what's needed, and text back an exact repair quote.
Once completed and tested to true neutral balance, you pay in cash onsite.
Do not attempt to operate the electric opener—doing so will strip the internal gears. Tap below to send me your photo immediately.

View PJA Page →As detailed in Chapter 6 of The Residential Garage Door Repair Bible, both springs share identical cycle fatigue and were installed on the exact same day. If one has snapped from microscopic metal fatigue, the companion spring has reached 99.9% of its engineered lifespan and will almost certainly snap within weeks. Furthermore, a new spring paired with a stretched, fatigued spring creates unequal torque that twists the shaft and damages hardware. For safety and balance, I strictly install matched pairs of brand-new springs.
Never. For safety reasons, I strictly do not reinstall used torsion springs. Stored kinetic potential in fatigued steel cannot be verified by eye, and reused springs present an extreme fracture hazard. All springs installed on my calls are 100% brand-new, high-cycle oil-tempered steel.
Reviewing your photo allows me to determine the exact drum type, shaft clearance, cable condition, and approximate door deadweight before rolling my truck. It also allows me to give you a clear, upfront quote with zero unexpected surprises.
Cash is the only form of payment accepted. Payment is due onsite in cash once the repair is 100% complete and you have personally tested the smooth, effortless balance of your door.
This is my part-time afternoon hobby and craft. I typically accept only 1 job per day, Monday through Friday, usually between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Weekends are reserved for family.
